OVERPASS CLAIMS THE QUOKKA

16th April 2023

With the best part A$4million up for grabs, it was a clash of the two coastlines with a handful of Eastern state raiders taking on the West’s best, AMELIA’S JEWEL (Siyouni).

In the inaugural running of The Quokka, OVERPASS (Vancouver) was able to hold out the late charge of AMELIA’S JEWEL to win by the shortest of margins.

The Quokka was moulded along similar lines to The Everest, with slots holders responsible for selecting a horse and negotiate a prizemoney breakdown with the connections.

OVERPASS ran in the slot of RAM Racing Syndicate, formed by a group of friends at an amateur football club in Perth.

Well done to Bjorn Baker, Scott Darby and connections of OVERPASS who has now won over A$3.6m having been purchased by WJB & Darby Racing for A$75,000 at the 2021 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the Corumbene Stud draft.

HUETOR SET FOR ANOTHER TRIP TO QUEENSLAND

Fourth up for the preparation having appeared a fraction ring rusty at his previous start, the HUETOR (Archipenko) of old was back on show when storming home to finish third in the G3 JRA Plate over 2000m.

Settling towards the rear of the field, HUETOR was able to rattle home in the quickest 200,400 & 600m splits for the race and now looks in good order for another tilt at the Brisbane carnival.

His next start will be in three weeks time on the Sunshine Coast in the G2 Hollindale Stakes before looking to defend his title in the G1 Doomben Cup.
