Although we are still yet to know who will be added to the honour board of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas, the yearling sale was a huge success.
With over $242million of trade across the seven sessions of selling, the strength of the Australian thoroughbred industry was once again on display.
It was a very fruitful sale for WJB, again teaming up with Snowden Racing to purchase nine yearlings alongside a handful of partners for a total spend of $4.58m.
The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale has produced 26 individual G1 winners amongst 188 stakes winners from their 2018-2021 catalogues. When compared alongside other sales, there is a compelling argument to be made to ensure quality is purchased early in the year on the GC, which we believe has been achieved.
Having purchased three horses at this sale last year, it was very pleasing to see GETTY (Capitalist), run second in the $500,000 Debut race on Saturday before the races were postponed. Another purchase from last year is GODZILLA (Shalaa) who ran third on debut in the G3 B.J. McLachlan Stakes before spelling in preparation for a program tailored towards the G1 Sires Produce and Champagne Stakes. One for the Black Book!
This year we were able to purchase eight yearlings by proven stallions and one colt by the exciting first season sire, SUPER SETH, the Guineas winning son of DUNDEEL.
Peter & Paul have been adding to their arsenal of two-year-old power over the last 18 months with imports purchased in Europe with HUETOR (G1 Doomben Cup) & OLD FLAME (G2 Linlithgow Stakes) to target middle distance races.
With over 40 races run beyond 1600m worth at least $1,000,000 in prizemoney this season, we have purchased a handful of types we feel will excel as three-year-olds and can enjoy that lucrative prizemoney.
