2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale

The Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale is over for another year and William Johnson Bloodstock was pleased to secure two well bred fillies in partnership during the week.

The week was a huge success for Magic Millions, with a record average of $247,492 for Book One, while the aggregate soared to a massive $188,475,600 and credit must go to Gerry Harvey and Katie Page who continue to improve the festivities and host the most enjoyable week on both a social and professional level.

Following the success of Victoria Derby winner Warning (Declaration Of War) earlier in the season, de Burgh Equine and William Johnson Bloodstock’s clients decided to stick with Anthony Freedman and his son Sam – the trainer who delivered them the Group 1 success – and purchased LOT 524, a well bred filly by Coolmore’s leading stallion Pierro, for $300,000 in partnership with Julian Blaxland’s Blue Sky Bloodstock.

In 2019 Pierro sired three individual Group One winners (Pierata, Shadow Hero, Regal Power) alongside key performers such as Arcadia Queen, Gamay and Reelem In Ruby and he is currently sitting at the top Australia’s leading sires’ championship (by prize-money). The filly hails from the family of Group One winner Linton (Galileo) and the super fast, multiple stakes scorer Heatherly (Lonhro).

It was also exciting to join forces with Blacksoil Bloodstock to secure LOT 660, the Vancouver (Medaglia d’Oro) half-sister to recent Group Two Villiers Stakes winner Quackerjack (Not A Single Doubt) for $210,000. First season-sire Vancouver is already responsible for three stakes performed two-year-olds and his future looks very bright. This filly will go into training with the in-form Tony Gollan who won two of the $1million races at this years Magic Millions Raceday.

The week was rounded off nicely by assisting Hubie de Burgh in his work for the leading syndicator, Darby Racing who secured eight yearlings by both proven and exciting young stallions on offer during the sale.

We look forward to seeing them develop and work towards the 2021 Magic Millions Raceday.
